	Telekom’s 25-year running music and marketing project Electronic Beats teamed up with Berlin creative agency and audio production house A Color Bright in 2023 to produce a weekly music news podcast.I was chosen as one of the program's main hosts. Alongside my duties in front of the microphone and handling guest interviews, I was also embedded in the scriptwriting and production process. Over the course of the 62 episodes of the series, I conducted long-form live interviews with world-renowned musicians, music industry experts, artists, designers, and media specialists.In our inaugural episode, I interviewed the electronic music veteran Richie Hawtin about the changing tide of music licensing payouts. In one of our ‘In Conversation’ extended interview episodes, I spoke with viral architect and furniture designer Harry Nuriev.

	Approaching its 10-year anniversary, the Honcho Campout commissioned a 5-part audio documentary podcast series recorded at the 2022 and 2023 editions of the festival.Produced by Jacob Sperber, the series is part of an ongoing archival project funded by Honcho Campout. The doc series also served to capture the Queer Fam Fund, an initiative founded by the festival centered on Black, Indigenous, people of color and people of Trans experience. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

A special thank you goes out to Imani, Vanessa, Jose, and Sonali for their parts behind and in front of the microphone to shape the unconventional narrative of ‘Camp Cast.’

	 What does queer raving on 250 acres of land in the heart of the red-pilled, Appalachian woods sound like? From the rigging of speaker systems to taking naked group showers, ‘Camp Cast’ is a 5-part audio series narrativizing the beautiful chaos of one of America’s most beloved weeklong LGBTQIA+ music festivals. Threaded within field recordings of the surrounding wildlife and dusty, bass-heavy dancefloors, the series unpacks what it means to be queer in nature, and all that bubbles up in the rugged outdoors for systemically policed bodies.

As an event dedicated to audiophiles and music enthusiasts, the Honcho crew has always felt that an audio/still-photo over video approach is best for documenting Campout. An audio archive helps us to preserve some privacy for campers, as we create a sharable record of the nearly decade-running queer gathering for generations to come. Throughout ‘Camp Cast,’ you’ll not only hear the voices and ambient sounds collected specifically for this project, but also examples of the rigorous audio collection we’ve been doing for all of Campout's DJ sets and lectures.

When Red Bull Music Academy launched an ambitious worldwide streaming radio project in 2015 they tapped Honey Soundsystem for a monthly show. Over time I grew fonder of my role as host and started interviewing guests in a longer format. By the time the radio station shut its doors in 2019 I had completed over 40 two-hour shows with guests from all over the globe to talking about their role in the gay underground dance music scene.︎NYC / DET / SF

	One of the crowning moments for the show was a two hour interview with Bay Area legend, Steve Fabus, in December 2018. A lifelong DJ who has lived through 1960s Chicago, 1970s San Francisco, and 1980s NYC—Steve opened up about the highs and lows of his career following American dance music through its most decadent and dangerous times.

From the Haight Ashbury LSD commune life to dj’ing metal music in gay bathhouses to eating pancakes across from Frankie Knuckles in Santa Fe—Steve is the keeper of plenty of stories.

	Twice a year I was invited out to Detroit, Berlin, or NYC to participate in Red Bull Festival week. There I recorded my show ‘on-air’ in one of the Academy’s official radio studios and cut my teeth interviewing guests in a live setting.

In 2018 I invited Steven Reaume into the Red Bull studios to talk about his decades-long involvement in the Detroit rave scene and he shed light on the gayer side of the warehouse and underground clubbing scene. We also talked about his return to form in 2017 ushering in a new class of djs and queer clubbers with the Grenadier warehouse parties.

In 2019 I invited Patrick Burton and Adriel Thornton to the Detroit Music Week show. We talked about a little-known moment in time when Quentin Crisp’s writing, Derrick May’s instrumentals, and gay performance art were bleeding together into the nightlife scene of ‘downtown 313’. Burton and Thornton lives as artists promoting parties and working on Detroit experimental stage productions.&#38;nbsp;

On June 27th 2019, we aired the Trocadero Transfer episode – an homage to the most notorious San Francisco nightclub of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. I split the show into three parts by interviewing three different characters related to the club:

Basil Racuk was an underage hipster teen with a fake ID and takes us back to the club through the lens of a young rebel and future tastemaker.

Lester Temple was a ‘70s Bay Area radio host and club DJ, and spills the beans on how he participated in the Disco Billboard charts as well as some Trocadero traditions.

Carla Nicholson was the ‘Arclight Diva’ of 520 4th Street and talks about finding her way to gainful employment at the club. From a small town Jehovah's Witness colony to the Saturday goddess of light, Carla talks legends and dispels myths on one of the most underrated traditions at the SF Troc – hand lighting the 150-disco ball chandelier.

Generators was a six-part immersive exploration of the subjective history of the queer nightclub. Across six podcast style narrative audio chapters and six corresponding IRL parties, a range of artists across mediums revealed their personal experiences with queer nightlife and the stakes of their investment. These audio stories were posted online ahead of the actual events, so club goers could make connections from the online to real life versions of the project.

Generators seeks to share the history of the queer nightclub, passing on stories that have traditionally resisted official codification. We are in a historical moment that has yet to grant many queer people their full humanity. Thus the nightclub retains its valence as site of political resistance, where our differences are celebrated and our lives affirmed.

	In 2015, the Honey Soundsystem crew was awarded a coveted residency at the Smart Bar nightclub in Chicago by then booker Marea Stamper (aka The Blessed Madonna). In the grand tradition of ‘artist residencies’ I came up with a way to enhance our bi-monthly takeover of the longest running nightclub in America.

Working with Marea and the Smart Bar team we pulled in Red Bull Music Academy and fleshed out a budget to pull off the ambitious project.
Each week before the bi-monthly club night, an episode from the six-part story was released online (in the form of streaming audio poetry). Chicago-based visual artist Tom Slazinski decorated the club, sometimes in elaborate installation pieces that corresponded to the narrative of that month's audio episode.

Generators enlisted three generations of queer club-goers from the ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s who took turns telling their stories, while Honey Soundsystem members provided the soundtrack.

The Generators project served as a symposium for many brilliant minds. We hand-picked artists from various mediums–writers/poets, performers, visual artists, activists, and musicians–in our queer nightlife community orbit.

Alongside creating work for Generators, artists were asked to delve into their sketchbooks and diaries to share in a larger conversation behind the curtain. To inform a community we must inform each other, and although everyone involved was already well versed in queer history and identity, we shared personal stories and inspirational documents to create a greater unified understanding. The varying backgrounds and ages of the artists helped bridge the gap between each person’s knowledge and lived experience thus far and what they could learn from each other. Threads of similarity were found across cultural and racial lines and even some hidden truths came out.

As the lead on this project I coordinated our brand partnership oversaw our budget; managed all aspects of the podcast, including recording, editing, and public release; and initiated the ideation process with talent.

On the final night of the Generators residency, several of the artists involved were flown to Chicago to speak. Before the club lights turned on and young dancers filled the dancefloor, fans of the project were able to hear the audio episodes on Smart Bar’s Funktion One sound. Afterwards a moderated artist talk took place under Tom Slazinki’s final art installation.
For the final night, Tom created a massive, silver mylar chandelier-esque centerpiece suspended at eye level in the middle of the dancefloor. The dreamlike metallic cloud held portraits of hundreds of victims to trangender hate crimes. The sprit of our sisters, brothers, and others were brought back to the center of the ‘gay bar.’ It reiturated a main theme from the project, that often one of the only spaces queer people can be free and safe is in the nightclub and on the dancefloor itself.

		<description>In 2017, Hi-fi Sean (formerly of the Soup Dragons) commissioned remixes of tracks from his debut LP called ‘ft.’&#38;nbsp; I was graciously passed the stems for the last track of the album, which featured vocals by Alan Vega (of rock band, Suicide). The lyrics Vega wrote for this song would be his last before passing at age 78 in July of 2016. Growing up obsessively listening to Suicide, it was an immense task to handle such delicate material.

Recorded in the Crowbar Corner, I used analog instruments like the Korg MonoPoly, a Synsonics Drum Machine, and the SH-101 to give it the gritty aesthetic Vega often celebrated in his music. The main beat of the track was created while experimenting with feedback and electrical pops.

The remix would be distributed worldwide on vinyl and digital format.

	This 24-hour music studio and production space opened in 2015 in partnership with the Gray Area Incubator Program. The concrete room where the studio is now housed was once the boiler room for heating the main Grand Theater space designed by renowned Deco architect S. Charles Lee in 1940.

Overseeing the full renovation and interior transformation of the space, I helped turn it into a professional haven for sound design, radio production and music exploration. The studio has housed a rotating cast of Bay Area sound artists and electronic musicians like Taraval, Marc Kate, Trevor Sigler, and gayphextwin.

It has been featured in Vogue Magazine Korea, FACT Magazine, and Jessy Lanza’s Anyone Around

	In 2015, Moulton Studios, one of San Francisco’s most beloved 24-hour access electronic music-focused studio / practice spaces was forced to close its doors and it was a huge loss to the community. Looking for a new home to make music in, I turned to friends at Gray Area Foundation for the Arts to see if they would house a permanent new space for my projects and others in my music circles.

With the help of Bay Area carpenter Dave Easlick, we transformed the raw concrete bunker-style space. Installing a double-door sound proofing system, custom work desks, DJ/Radio station, and a custom double-panned skylight–it is unlike any other room in the city.

Crowbar Corner members have always prioritized sharing the space with artists and musicians in SF for gear tutorials, help with mixdowns, DJ mix recordings and jam sessions.
Most recently the Crowbar, Gray Area, and ZERO1 have partnered up to provide the Grand Creative Resource Library

	Temperado Tornado by Baronhawk Poitier is the lead track and single from the last EP released on Honey Soundsystem Records. Baronhawk and I had been talking about releasing his music for years. He had been passing me demos on and off until he arrived on the beautiful 4-track EP we released in February of 2020.
This music video, of which I was producer, was directed by Aron Kantor and stars Baronhawk. This record would be the first time the world at large would be invited into Baronhawk’s artist story and being a competitive dancer is a huge part of that legend.

Baronhawk prepared all the choreography himself alongside his own costume styling. We shot the video at Honcho Campout as revelers partied at other stages. The installation featured in the video is by Tom Slazinski who also worked on the Generators project.

		<description>
	In 2011, Folsom Street Events approached me to help them revamp their 2000+ person Sunday after party, Deviants. We rebranded the event with young queer visual artists, designers, filmmakers and performers to great succes–the first year and every 7 subsequent years were consistently sold out affairs.&#38;nbsp;

Using viral marketing videos, trendy/rare musical headliners, and cutting edge-lighting and decor installations, we captured a fresh cross-section of queer clubbers rarely seen at official Folsom nighttime events. We shaped the Deviants brand around the voice of a new generation of queer artists and activists speaking from evolved perspectives on gender, sexuality, sex work, and race.

Folsom eventually gave the Deviants team their own daytime music stage at the Folsom Street Fair. We broke ground with our gender-queer and generationally-diverse line ups. The stage was a highly sought after slot for international DJ bookers. Headliners could play to hundreds of thousands at the fair in the afternoon and then at Deviants later in the night–it was one-of-a-kind gig.&#38;nbsp; ︎San Francisco,&#38;nbsp;USA

	A highlight Deviants performance was when the Bay Area singer Paul Parker, famous for his gay anthems from the ‘80s hi-NRG disco days, came to perform. It was the first time he sang his Patrick Cowley-produced 1982 Billboard chart topper, ‘Right on Target’ for a San Francisco audience in decades.

	Each year Deviants would find new ways to integrate visual and performing artists that worked in or around the topic of sex work.

CoreCult created ‘video game peep show’ booths where attendees could watch furries and dominatrixes acting out a scene.

We collaborated with St. James Infirmary and had a rotating cast of pole dancers raise money for the clinic.

Kinky-conceptual performance artist Siobhan Aluvalot, ceremoniously opened the Deviants dancefloor each year with a 15-minute piece ruminating on topics of desire, power, and the subconscious.

Vivvyanne Forevermore curated ‘flash drag performances’ in and around the event–centered around questioning the ‘new normal’ of gay party spaces.

		<title>Boiler Room</title>

		<description>
	This was my third appearance on Boiler Room. I appeared with the Honey Soundsystem crew in 2015 in NYC and in 2017 in London. This 2020 appearance was my first opportunity to perform solo. It was also in San Francisco–my hometown as an artist and the expectations were high.&#38;nbsp;

When I have a concept for a costume I usually turn to my trusted friend and longtime collaborator, Jarred Garza. He has a way of taking my super conceptual ideas into wearable seamless pieces.

Costuming and world building have long been a thread in my performance identities. I weave a bit of jester and clown energy into all my personas, even if the music or subjects being presented are serious. Self deprecating humor can radically subvert the power exchange between performer and audience. If an audience member can see beauty after they have written you off, they truly must face themselves.

	After I got booked for this Boiler Room, I came to Jarred with my most ambitious idea yet, something entirely sculptural. I asked him to turn me into a bouquet of flowers. The idea presented a myriad of issues as I needed to be able to see and hear but I wanted to disappear into the bouquet. He masterfully created a head piece that supported its weight on my shoulders. The flowers were sewn into a black mesh covering, so at no place on my head could the audience see me, just flowers. He also affixed a headset into the bouquet that you can see me adjusting to cue songs during the set.

I wanted to set a tone for the music I was going to share, which wasn’t raging party music. Boiler Room makes the DJ a centerpiece, but really DJ’ing is more about enhancing a room of other main characters.

Put me on the table, I am going to light up the room, make it smell great, give it some color, a discussion piece maybe, but really - i’m just here for you (not the reverse).
